Spiritual Gifts (Class 06) Administration Gifts: Leading and Serving

Gift of Administration / Leading

• Definition: Spirit-enabled ability to organize, govern, and guide the church’s people, resources, and ministrieswith wisdom, efficiency, and clarity so that others flourish.
• Key characteristics:
  • Strategic & organized (plans well; produces results).
  • Delegates wisely (knows people’s strengths; “knows the audience”).
  • Vision-oriented (not stuck “in the weeds”; sets goals).
  • Enabler of others (creates structures where others can thrive).
• Pitfalls to avoid:
  • Pride, bossiness, “my helicopters” mindset, importing CEO culture into Christ’s church.
  • Making the pastor “do everything”—plurality and shared leadership matter.
• Biblical examples: Jethro’s counsel to Moses (Ex 18), Joseph (Gen 41), Nehemiah, Titus (Tit 1:5).

Gift of Service / Helps

• Definition: Spirit-enabled ability to joyfully and effectively meet practical needs and support others’ ministry, often behind the scenes.
• Marks of a servant:
  • Humility; nothing “beneath” them; responsiveness to real needs.
  • Sees a need, meets a need—driven to bring relief, not visibility.
  • Sustains others’ gifts (e.g., setup, logistics, care).
• Biblical example: Phoebe—commended helper of many (Rom 16:1–2).

Administration & Service—How They Complement

• Helpful contrast: “The administrator organizes the dinner; the servant prepares the meal.”
• Shared goal: Both exist to serve others and meet needs—one directionally, the other hands-on.

Practical Avenues for Service (Examples Given)

• Care & mercy: Widows’ care, elderly/homebound visits, hospital visits, benevolence help.
• Hospitality & logistics: Meal trains, childcare/nursery, kitchen coordination, facility upkeep/repairs.
• Ministry support: Tech/sound/streaming, website and email/admin support, class logistics, setup/teardown.
• Skilled helps: Car repairs, electrical/plumbing, grounds, financial assistance administration.
• Everyday faithfulness: Arriving early, coffee/AC/lights, cleaning, “doorkeeping” (Ps 84:10 spirit).

Cultivating These Gifts in the Body

• Spot and speak: Proactively affirm observed gifting; invite people into appropriate roles.
• Encourage & empower: Provide scope, support, and cover; practice healthy delegation.
• Plurality & posture: Shared leadership guards against tyranny and burnout; humility is non-negotiable.
